Jaydan Callahan’s life is a wreck. Gangs, drugs and violence are a part of his normal day to day routine. For one so young, he’s seen it, been there, done it and gotten more than enough tee shirts as proof. Capable of smelling a cop from a mile away, it comes as no surprise to Jay when the guy he has the hots for is actually working undercover to bring down the town’s notoriously dangerous king pin.

Four men, four lives, each one of them stained by lies, corruption and doubt. Can love show them the path to redemption, or will broken oaths, fear and grief make the crosses they bear too heavy a mantle to carry.

Interview

He couldn’t speak. The lump in his throat threatened to choke him. All he could do was stare. His eyes grew wider as both of his friends leaned in toward him, sandwiching him between them.

“Shh, it’s ok. We gotcha,” Danny whispered as he nuzzled along Jay’s jaw line.

“Relax. Ain't no one gunna hurt you. Not with me here.” Declan’s deep baritone voice sent a shiver through Jay. All three of them had been lifelong friends. Danny and Declan both knew what Jay had given up to look after Sylvie. They’d stuck by him, helped him, and watched each other’s backs numerous times in the past. They were close; however, they had never been as close as they were right then.

But, as he'd thought earlier, things had changed. Marrenzo wanted Declan. The mafia boss’s son would stop at nothing to get him which put Danny at risk and made whatever was happening between the three of them, a one-time thing. It was goodbye. Jay felt it, had known it was inevitable. Bringing up both of his hands, Jay held their faces in his palms and smiled through the tears.

“I fucking love you guys! Stay safe, stay together and let me know you’re both ok. Brothers to the end.” Jay leaned in one at a time and kissed both men. His lips tasted them, their tongues sought his. The kiss was warm, welcoming and greedily consumed. He’d have given anything; everything to have the same with Orrin.

“Brothers to the end,” Declan rumbled and moved in, taking Jay's mouth.

“Always,” Danny whispered as he slipped his hand down over Jay’s chest. His fingers fumbled, slipping beneath Jay’s tee shirt. He lifted it slowly as though he were unwrapping something to be savored and enjoyed. Declan's hand followed, lifting with Danny until the shirt was removed and Jay lay on his side. Danny faced him chest to his chest and Declan curved in around his back.

The warmth of their bodies felt so good. Hard chests from hours of working out in back yards made Jay feel more wanted and connected than he’d ever felt before. Tears stung his eyes. Even being held between the two people he’d grown up with, trusted and loved, Jay's heart refused to let go of its want of Orrin’s touch.

“I can’t,” Jay whispered as he buried his face against Danny’s chest.

“You love him? Your Fed?” Declan asked before brushing his lips lightly over the back of Jay’s neck. Warm breath fanned across his shoulders, teasing the small hairs that reached up for more.

“He’s not a Fed,” Jay replied. “He’s NCIS; a naval investigator. He needed the low down on Marrenzo and rather than go for the inside knowledge chose to see what the opposing side knew about him,” Jay explained. He wanted them to understand that he hadn’t sold them out.

“Hold on. You knew all of this time? You guys knew and never said a word?” Jay asked and rolled onto his back to face both of his friends.

“Fed, Cop, MP, NCIS, it's all the same to me.”

Interview

Hello Cheryl darlin! We are super thrilled to be here! Thank you for hosting us during the blog tour! We so appreciate the support.

Let’s start by telling us, in twenty words, or less, what you’re book’s about.
J.T.: A falsely accused Navy Commander calls a priest for help. Sparks fly! Add a foster brother and a gangbanger and...BOOM!
Damn that was hard!
V.L.: Injustice, unrequited love, yearning, realisation, hope and new beginnings along with just a dash of sex.

What was it that led you to write in the genre(s) you write?

V.L.:       A lot of pushing LOL As I’ve never believed that I am that good a writer. I pole played in the usual groups such as BDB where I was very privileged to have made some very good friends who persuaded me to try my hand at writing a book, TERROR!!! Suffice to say, I have never looked back, and although some friendships didn’t last, my appreciation for them and the multitude of  people that continue to encourage me to write will remain steadfast, but above all that, I have to say that I owe everything to JT. She is my rock as well as my sounding board.

J.T.:        My first book was male/female. It was fun to write, and I’ll never regret publishing it. But, in the back of my mind lurked Vishous and Butch from the BDB series. They should have been together. It irritated me to no end and still does that Ward built this amazing relationship between them and then denied us the hawt spectacle of their mating. Yeah, I know its her book and she gets to make those choices; I get that as an author, but something inside tells me...she didn’t follow her gut on that one. It ticked me off that Vishous didn’t get his true mate because he was male. Mainstream wasn’t ready for it. I was. I also read Special Forces by Voinov and there was nothing out there as powerful as the love between Dan and Vadim. The voices that showed up in my head after that were all male demanding to have their stories told. I couldn’t refuse them, don’t want to refuse them because damn....they are hotness.

Are your books character led or plot led, or both?

J.T.:        A bit of both I think. When writing with V.L., we usually have a general idea of where the story is supposed to go. We know who the characters are; however, things are subject to change as the writing process evolves. Broken Oaths was supposed to be just Thierry and Ryan. But, when the writing started, Orrin showed up and the story veered off in a totally different direction. No matter the plot you have outlined, the characters tend to throw curveballs that you have to go with or else they stop talking to you. That makes it a bit hard to write. LOL.

V.L.: Hmmm!!!! That’s a tricky one. I usually start off with an idea along the lines of what the story consists of and a distorted plot line before I envision what sort of characters should be portrayed. Then it’s a matter of building them up while the story revolves around them.

What is your favourite part of the writing process?

V.L.: The ideas, the plot lines and the mapping out of the whole story line gives me a great buzz. I suck at the actual writing as I need complete silence to write due to the fact I get very easily distracted. And with two grown sons at home it can get very noisy.

J.T.:        My favorite part is the actual writing. I love to sit down and get sucked into whatever story I’m working on at the moment. I love the challenge of telling the story. I laugh, cry and growl while I write. I also enjoy brainstorming with V.L. She has amazing ideas and stretches my boundaries while challenging me to do better with each book. I love the connection we share through the writing.

What is your least favourite part of the writing process?

J.T.:        Edits! Oh the horror!!
V.L.: Promotion. I’m not great with people and I tend to shy away from having to put myself out there.

Where do you get your inspiration for your characters?

V.L.:       Dreams, walking, watching tv or just staring out of the window, even songs give me storys of which I can build into the lives of character based books.

J.T.:        Everywhere! Just seeing a name that I like can trigger a brainstorm. They pop up when I’m working, driving, eating, shopping. I can see a man walking down the street that captures my attention and my imagination is off and running. Entire plots and character attributes are popping like popcorn in my head. I never have anything to write on either. Except they never really go away. They linger in there waiting...prowling...watching for a chance to pounce and demand their story be told. It’s not a bad thing actually. I love it.

Tell us a little about the characters in your book and their story. You can use more than twenty words this time.

J.T.:  Hmm. Thierry is a Navy Commander, or he was. To start the story, he’s been jailed for treason by a crooked Admiral. Locked away on a military base, he uses the only resource he has to make contact with the outside world. His religion. Through machinations he knows nothing about, Father Ryan Flynn is sent to take Thierry’s confession. Thierry is blown away by the sexy priest. He makes the decision to trust the priest with his secrets while fighting his body’s response to the man.

Father Flynn is a tormented man. He joined the priesthood at a very young age to escape the sinful lust/love he held for his foster brother, Orrin. He struggles with the past for many reasons while dedicating his life to his faith and his parishioners. When he meets the charismatic Commander, everything he’s worked for is threatened. But, he can’t resist the compelling sailor. To make his struggle all the harder, Orrin enters the picture and demands Ryan face his past and his future.
And I’ll stop there and let V.L. tell you about Orrin and Jay.

V.L.: *Grins* I LOVE Orrin and Jay. Orrin has pined all his life for Ryan and grown a heart of stone due to the fact that Ryan couldn’t love him in the way Orrin wanted him to. However, on building an alliance with Jay, a street savvy gang leader, that  grows into a tentative friendship, Orrin comes to realise that what he’s been looking for all of his life, is right there in front of him and just maybe there’s a second chance at love, if he’s brave enough to take off the blinkers and see more than just Ryan.

If you could have one wish what would it be?

V.L.:       I would wish the same for JT, I lost one of my older brothers over twenty years ago and it devasted my family. We have never been the same since, so I know what JT is going through, I just wish she didn’t have to go through the depth of grief from losing someone so young.
J.T.:        I would wish to have my brother Nathan back. He died far too young. He had so much life and so much to give the world. His children need their dad. His death devastated my mom. I hate seeing her in pain. I miss him terribly.

What's your deepest fear?
J.T.:        Losing one of my children.

V.L.:       The same…Losing a child. Nothing prepares you for that.

If I came to dinner what would you feed me?

V.L.:       I’m sooo laughing as I know for well you’re likely to starve if it’s left to JT. There is no hope of you ever getting fed…I come from a large Irish family, so we had to learn. Roast dinners, steak, bacon and cabbage, Italian , Indian, take your pick. While I don’t so much enjoy doing the likes of quick evening meals, I do love to cook set meals for special occasions.

J.T.:        Ohhh I’m so laughing right now. I hope you come when V.L. and I are together. She can cook. Amazing cook! Me...it would be best to order out Chinese or pizza. I don’t have the patience to cook and when I try, I forget the pot’s on the stove. I’ve burned boiled eggs; had the shells stuck to the bottom of the pan and the smoke alarm screaming at me. Not my speciality at all!

Which of your characters would you like to be sharing the dinner table with us?

J.T.:        All of them from the Crimson Nights Saga...well not Darklon. Can you imagine sitting down with Lachi, Laz, Vischeral, Copi, Roman, Tobias, Arial, Bastian, Saul, Kimberly, Mirabella, Lance, Clariel, Celix....we need a BIG table! Because that’s not all of them...*winks*...the next book will introduce more smexies for you to love.

V.L.: Definitely our boys and DD (Vischeral Bourne) Just so as to hear the banter between him and Laz.

Tell us in the character’s own words, what he/she would have to say about you.

V.L.: Orrin and Jay both agree on the fact that I’m not a people person, I’m quite the hermit and I like to keep my private life …Private. I can be very argumentative, especially if I feel wronged and I once I’ve been hurt, I do bear grudges. However, I am kind and even though I don’t love or trust easily I am loyal.

J.T.:        Well since I was scared to ask the priest what he thought of my wicked self, Thierry said:
“J.T. is a stubborn, opinionated female who loves with her whole heart and would fight dragons to keep the ones she loves safe.”
I think he knows me pretty well.

What would they say (again in their own words) about themselves, and their story that will make us want to read about it?

J.T.: You should see the smirk on Thierry’s face when I asked him that question. He needs a priest in his life, that one has the mischief devil in his eyes. Lucky Ryan!
“My life was a living hell trapped in that cell with no hope of ever getting out. A God I had lost faith in heard my prayers and sent me an angel on Earth to save not only my life but to heal my soul. I would not be here today if not for Ryan. He risked his life, tested his faith and sacrificed everything...because he loved me.” – Thierry Donovan
AWWWWWW! Makes me want to go back and visit with them again!

V.L.: Ryan wants more than anything for Thierry to sin just so as to see him on his knees, what happens next is a BLOW by BLOW account of just how perfect Ryan thinks they are for each other. As for Orrin and Jay, Jay hides behind joviality and a smart mouth, however, when push comes to shove, Jay is the first one to be there, he is brave and very over protective of Orrin. He is very outspoken and loves to take charge which Orrin revels in. Orrin’s quite reserved and can be a little hot headed. He loves having a family, one that is actually forged by blood and loves Jay with every fibre of his being. Jay was the balm to sooth his fractured mind and put back the pieces of his heart.

Which other fictional character(s) would you like to be present at the dinner party?

V.L.: LASSITER and LAZ at the same table YAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE!!!! OMG and I have to say this, but I’d have to have ALL of Nicholas Bella’s House of Theoden characters there too. That would be one hell of an orgy!

J.T.:        Vishous and Butch! I think I would faint dead away. And Dan and Vadim and Seth and Elijah from Love Life and Circumstance...hell all of the males from our stories. Derek Sagan...Seriously, we don’t have a table big enough. Jenks. The sex demons and the four horseman from the Demonica series. Roarke and Eve. Okay, we are going to have to make it a field party or something.

What other authors would you say have either influenced your writing or you would like to emulate?

J.T.:        I love J.R. Ward and Voinov. Ward is funny and created a dynamic world of vampires that almost has a cult following. She is amazing. Voinov wrote the single most compelling story I’ve ever read. I would faint to even be considered an author on their level.

V.L.: Voinov…Voinov and oh did I say VOINOV. I would love to be capable of the degree of mastery in which he wites. As much as Special forces broke me apart, it was an epic read. However, he has written some amazing books, one of which is my all-time fave The Dark Souls collection. LOVE IT

Which character from literature, would you most like to have invented?

V.L.: Jesus…As we only ever hear about him in books and are yet to actually meet him, it would be so freakin awesome to be the one to turn around and say…”Hey dickhead. I am the son of god, and nowhere in my book does it say that I hate gays. Get a life and stop judging others or so help me I will strike thee down with leprosy or some such shit. I’m a dude who hangs out with twelve other men…GET OVER IT!”

J.T.:        Dracula! Can you imagine being the creator of that vampire?

What do you prefer writing. A one off novel, a series or short stories?

J.T.:        Well I suck at short stories. I have way too much to say. So that’s out. I love to read series and love the idea of continuing a story over a span of several books. Writing Crimson Nights, I’ve realized that its very hard. There is constant checking to make sure you don’t make blonde hair turn brown from one book to the next or having to remember that this character loves bacon while this character detests it. You have to have a reference manual or you go nuts trying to remember it all. Stand alones are easier. You write the story and then you move on to the next. But then, you miss those characters you fell in love with and want to revisit them. Vicious circle....I can’t choose between them.

V.L.: I prefer one offs, however, as I am incapable of writing a short story, it has to be a long one off. My personal preference for reading is also big long books or a series that you don’t have to wait for a yearly release until you get the next one.

What kind of books do you read (if you have time to read)?

V.L.: Gay literature and paranormal are my favorites. I don’t mind the romance as long as it’s not all fluff. I love dark and disturbing erotica and story’s that push the boundaries of taboo subjects. The darker the better.

J.T.:        I read everything. Gay, romance, biography, western, paranormal, contemporary, historical, sci-fi, mystery. Whatever is handy and sounds good at the time. I’ve been known to have three books on the go at the same time.

Where do you see yourself personally and professionally in 5 years time?

J.T.:        Living in England and writing with V.L.

V.L.:      What she said!

Do you have any other projects in the offing we should look out for?

V.L.: As JT said, The crimson Nights Saga is under way, plus I have three solo story’s over half way that I am trying to work on R.L permitting. Earl and Louis story is a more personnel project and in some ways cathartic. It tells the story of Earl a twenty seven year old male who has been abused at the hands of his father all his life and Louis, an ex-cop who now owns his own security firm who also blackmails Seattle’s elite as a way to fund his lifestyle, that is until he comes into contact with Earl. From there on, Louis life is turned on its ass….

J.T.:        We’re working on Crimson Ties, book three in the Crimson Nights Saga. Lachi and Laz have adjustments to make in their lives. Their ever widening inner circle of friends are dealing with the twists and turns of life while new characters are making waves.

I’m also working on Logan’s and Trevor’s story. I started it back in 2013 and have come back to it after finishing Ansleigh’s Grotto. Logan is a retired Army HALO paratrooper and Trevor is a police detective in Rolling Fork, MS. A killer is on the loose and Trevor is out to get him; however, forensic evidence is pointing to the man he’s lusting after, one Logan Andrews.

Thank you so much for answering my questions in such a full and entertaining way. I loved your book and I will be posting a review in a few days' time. Watch this space for my honest opinion of a great book.
